Department Vehicles & Off-Campus Student Transport

Vehicles for transporting students to off-campus locations are available from Zipcar, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, or the State Motor Pool. Please note that if you need to park outside of normal, marked parking spaces, a short term or service permit will be required.

Zipcar

22 Zipcar vehicles are parked in various designated spots around campus. Vehicles must be reserved and driven by a person with a Zipcar account. Please note the following important points for Zipcar usage:

  • Faculty, staff, or students may reserve and drive a Zipcar if they have a Zipcar account
  • Registration processing can take up to 7 days
  • You must be between 21 - 75 years old to get or join an account
  • Valid US Drivers License is required for at least 5 years prior to driving a Zipcar
  • No major speed violations (16+ mph over the limit) in the last 3 years
  • No major driving violations (DUI, aggressive, careless, reckless driving) in the last 5 years
  • No more than 2 minor violations or accidents in the last 3 years
  • Usage is on a first come, first serve basis, but vehicles can be reserved months in advance.

A service/loading permit must be used for temporary parking outside the marked Flexcar parking spaces (i.e. parking and loading between buildings). More about PSU & Zipcar

Enterprise

The Enterprise located at SW 4th & Pine Street (map) has a PSU account. You can contact them directly at 503.275.5359. Please note the following important points for Enterprise usage:

  • Enterprise can deliver your vehicle for an extra $5, or they will pick you up and bring you to their office for free
  • Valid US drivers license is required (need not be issued in Oregon)
  • You will need the PSU direct bill number (D346W68) and your university index code
  • Give 2+ hours notice for cars; 24+ hours for vans and SUVs
  • 12-passenger vans are the largest vehicle available for PSU
  • Must be 25+ years of age to drive 12-passenger vans

State Motor Pool

The State Motor Pool is located in Salem at 1100 Airport Road SE. Please note the following important points for using Motor Pool vehicles:

  • To use a Motor Pool vehicle, your department must have or apply for a Motor Pool Vehicle Check-Out Card
  • 12-passenger vans, SUVs and cars are available
  • Motor Pool charges are billed back to the renting department by the Travel Office
  • Damage due to accident, misuse, neglect, or negligence is charged back to the renting department ($2500 deductible)

A loading/service parking permit is available for short-term parking. If the vehicle must be parked for all or part of the day, the driver may stop at the parking attendant in PS1, PS3, UCB, or UPL parking areas and purchase a permit at the daily/hourly parking rate. Vehicles with E-plates must obtain a permit while parked on campus.

Short Term Permits

All types of parking permits may be obtained from the Trasportation & Parking office in the Neuberger Hall lobby. Most permits do not need to be set up in advance, but can be to ensure the group or department has the proper permit for the required time(s).

A one-time-use loading permit for 30 minutes or less is free of charge may be picked up at the Transportation & Parking office in Neuberger without prior arrangements.

An ongoing or frequent-use 30-minute permit can be issued for various locations around campus to departments or individual faculty/staff members. These permits must be arranged in advance but can be used for an entire academic term or year. To obtain this type of permit, contact Cara Wheeler at wheelerc@pdx.edu.
